Nicol Francis Hendruk *1998
I was born to Czech parents in Arizona and grew up alternately in the United States and the Czech Republic. I graduated from the grammar school in Karlovy Vary, where I am also currently living.
I never studied art. I have been drawing with passion since I was able to hold a pencil. Since then, it has been one of my favorite ways to express myself. I draw from my imagination intuitively, without reference images. When drawing, I let my mind and hand do whatever they’re urging me to do. Each new line leads me to another, and what appears on paper is often a surprise, even for me.
I get my inspiration from various sources: I am intrigued by a song, a style of music, dancing, a movie, a comic book, a situation, a character from a story, or a real person. I experience moments of enthusiasm, enchantment, or, conversely, fear and shame.
The human body has always fascinated me with its natural beauty, which is why I like to draw figures in motion from different points of view. People can express many things in many different ways, which is interesting to me. What I like to portray is, vulnerability, openness, nudity and intimacy. In general, the portrayal of a person is a supporting theme for me, especially of a woman, because that is who I am, what I know, and what continues to inspire me.
I draw on white paper (A4 - 21 x 29.7 cm) and use a mixture of different art materials such as pencils, colored pencils, aquarelle pencils, ink pens, brush pens, markers, dry pastels and oil pastels.
